John is an industry veteran and entrepreneur who works as a mechanical design engineer and project leader specializing in new product development, mechanical system simulation, design, and deployment, He has extensive experience managing technical teams and designing equipment for medical applications, aircraft ground support, oilfield compression, downhole tools, and consumer products.

Jacquie Neve PhD

IP Management & Strategy | FUEL Partner

Jacquie is a results-oriented intellectual property specialist with over 20 years of IP strategy and management experience in various roles and industries. Her engagement with startups and SMEs helps to foster a proactive IP culture. Jacquie’s ability to develop forward thinking holistic solutions aligns IP development and protection with business goals to make the best use of resources, mitigate legal risk, and maximize intangible asset value. She is a registered Canadian patent agent.

Andreas Wissmann PhD

Managing Partner | FUEL Partner

Andreas is a serial startup entrepreneur. Over the last 20 years he cofounded and/or played leading roles with companies in the biotech, lab instrumentation, and health IT sectors. While he’s also a recovering PhD scientist (Microbiology & Biochemistry) Andreas now works mostly at the interface of business, executive and science/technical responsibilities. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary.

Fabiola Martens EIT

Junior Engineer

Fabiola is an interdisciplinary mechanical and electrical engineer with experience working across a range of projects in the biomedical and clean energy sectors. In addition to her work at FUEL, she has contributed to injury research applications, orthopedic surgical training tools, assistive devices, and automotive fuel cells. Fabiola enjoys a good design challenge and treats every new problem as a learning opportunity. She hopes to always continue growing and contributing to making the world a healthier place.

George John PEng

QMS Specialist

George has over 20 years of professional experience in the product development domain, including such diverse sectors as medical devices, automotive, aerospace, general industrial goods, application development of speciality and general engineering materials and learning management systems. He is certified for the ISO 13485 Medical Device Quality Management System and internal auditing, as well as medical device risk management. Aside from ISO 13485, he is experienced with various medical device-related standards such as ISO 14971, AAMI TIR 57 and NIST standards, IEC 62304, IEC 62366, IEC 60601, ISO 14155, as well as quality and regulatory requirements for Software as a Medical Device and Software in a Medical Device. George also has experience with regulatory requirements related to Health Canada SOR 98-282, FDA CFR 820 and auditing requirements for MDSAP.

Mark Latos PEng

Senior Electrical Engineer

Mark is an experienced electrical engineer specializing in automation and bringing new products to market. He has designed hardware and software systems for a wide variety of applications at scales ranging from human wearable devices to industrial process plants. Mark is committed to staying current with and applying emerging technologies to make the world a safer and more comfortable place to live.

Colin Unruh MSc

Junior Research Scientist

Colin is a detail-oriented physical biochemist with a complementary background in biotech and startup environments. One area of particular expertise includes the development of spectroscopic devices and associated techniques for a wide range of applications including the mining industry and specific types of biochemical research. Colin enjoys any challenge that pushes him to learn new skills and advance his professional development.

Christine Jansen BA

Artist-in-Residence

Christine is a professional artist experienced with multiple media types in various disciplines (incl. making paper & paper-like materials). She now focuses on textile & material prototyping as well as developing manufacturing processes for medical devices. She is a master seamstress and leads FUEL’s industrial sewing machine efforts.
